Is Support Work Right for You?

We have put together answers to some frequently asked questions that might help you learn more about Dimensions.

If there’s anything else you would like information on, please email our resourcing team directly: applications@dimensions-uk.org or call 0300 303 9150.

Do I need experience?

We use values-based recruitment to find the best people for the job.

All we require is a kind nature, a drive to make a positive difference and ambition to provide the best support possible. Think you have what it takes to be a support worker? Take our quiz and find out if a new career as a support worker is right for you.

Do I need qualifications?

You don't need qualifications to join Dimensions as a support worker. This is because we provide all necessary training as well as a full induction onto the programme. This includes specialist skills to meet the needs of the people you support.

You also have the opportunity to join our award-winning career development programme for free career coaching.

What background checks are needed?

Usually, checks include:

  • Employment history.
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Disclosure and barring check (DBS) – you can find out more about DBS checks here.
  • A health check – you can find out more about this here.

Do you offer sponsorship for non-UK nationals?

Unfortunately we cannot sponsor workers from outside of the UK. We are calling on government to change the rules that currently make it very hard for any employer to recruit support workers from outside the UK.

What types of roles do you offer?

We offer roles at a variety of different levels, such as support worker roles, managerial roles and roles in business support.

Do I need a driving licence?

Some, but not all of our roles require a driving licence.

If a license is required, we will state this within the vacancy details.

What hours will I be required to work?

This will entirely depend on the role you apply for. We aim to be as flexible as possible and offer full-time, part-time and relief positions – the hours for each role will be stated within the vacancy.

Shift patterns vary between each service, as this is managed at a local level. You can do this with the line manager in your interview.

What opportunities are there for professional and career development?

Visit our training and development page to find out more.

Can I still apply if I have a past conviction?

Yes. As part of our recruitment process, we will discuss with you what the conviction was for, the circumstances and when it took place. We will then complete a risk assessment before an offer of employment is made.
